Unfortunately due to the continued problems with getting aid accepted into Burma and being sure that the aid would be able to get through to where it was needed, LifeBox made the decision not to send the planned consignment of 100 boxes.
As news of the effects of the Chinese earthquake worsened we made a decision to instead send the boxes to China. Working with the Consul General in Manchester and Rotarians in the Shanghai and Beijing Rotary Clubs we have been able to establish a route through to the area of Sichuan affected so terribly by the recent earthquake. The boxes have left the warehouse and will arrive in Chengdu on 26th May. Currently we expect that the boxes will then travel to Guang Yuan in the very north of Sichuan, bordering on the Shanxxi province. It is one of the 5 cities badly damaged but because of its remoteness, it has not got much attention and therefore not much aid. The destination may change is when the boxes arrive in China it is considered there is greater need elsewhere in the area.
In addition to the LifeBoxes each of which contain 6 LifeStraws we have sent a further 1280 LifeStraws to provide much needed safe drinking water to as many as possible.
