Despair turns to hope …

Disaster Aid Australia, together with our international partners, Canada, USA, UK and Ireland today offered our assistance to The Hon. Foreign Minister, Mr Kevin Rudd and AusAID. Within Rotary, RI President Ray Klinginsmith and RI President Elect Kalyan Banjeree have also been contacted to enable a Rotary response to this devastating disaster.
We confirmed the availability of 1,000 humanitarian aid packs stored in Shanghai and that together with our fully trained DARTs (Disaster Aid response teams, who are on standby) could be deployed to arrive within 72 hours, if required.
All aid has been donated by Rotarians and other generous donors around the world.
In December 2010 Disaster Aid deployed 192 kits to the Juba region of Sudan. These pictures show the some of the kits deployed. This operation was supervised by DART (Disaster Aid Response Teams) sent from Australia.

In our first deployment, our DARTs are distributing 5,000 LifeStraws and LifeBoxes in Pakistan this week. A LifeBox contains 6 LifeStraws and were distributed to survivors in the Pushtoon Gari where every house had been destroyed. DART Peter Newton reports “We were introduced to a young man with eight siblings whose father had been killed in the floods; he was most grateful to receive a LifeBox.”
Lifebox has received £1100 donation towards the Haiti Appeal.
Rtn. Randell Eastman said, "Please accept this small gift from us to convey our thanks to Lifebox for your efforts on behalf of the Chinese people, in their time of need and to assist you with your generosity to the people of Haiti."
